The annual Abbas Amerjee Memorial Debate, organised in memory of a Xaverian, the late Abbas Amerjee, who was a keen debater and an excellent student, was organised by X-CALBIRE, the Debate Society of St. Xavier's Collegiate School, on 9th November 2012.
This year, wordsmiths from all sections of Classes 11 and 12 crossed swords in an impressive battle of content and wit, on the motion - "THIS HOUSE BELIEVES THAT INDIANS WOULD RATHER BUILD MEMORIALS TO THEIR LEADERS THAN FOLLOW THEIR PRECEPTS". Moderated by Xaverian Dr. Sandip Chatterjee, the best speaker was awarded to Master Anubhab Haldar of Class 12 A. Master Anish Kanoria of Class 11 D and Master Anshuman Mohan, were declared First Runner Up and Best Interjector respectively.
Gratitude goes to our distinguished judging panel (Mr. R.Raman, Mr. N. Ritchie and Mr. S.Mitra), our Principal, Fr.B.Thomas SJ and our Vice-Principals Fr. B.D'Santos and Fr.P. Arockiam. We also thank our teachers in-charge Mr.A.B.Singh and Ms. M.Joseph for shouldering many thankless duties both before, during and after the debate as also to the members of the debate club for their help and assistance in conceptualising and executing this activity.
